Think it's all in the camera?  The slideshow to the left was created from images taken with a common disposable film camera.  Just as an expensive brush does not make it's owner an artist, an expensive camera will not make a great photographer.  Understanding light, and using it as the painter uses a fine brush, is the defining factor  that makes a great photograph. 

Black and white images distill photography to it's basic elements of shadows and light.  Understanding this is pivotal to creating a photograph that transcends the bondaries.
